We are excited that our practice has reached a very busy steady state. Because of significant time constraints and the desire to provide the very best service to all of our patients, we are currently referring these procedures out to trusted colleagues.
Many patients in the Raleigh area have enjoyed their implants but would like to return to a natural size or shape or have had issues with the implants and would like to have them removed. Breast implant removal is usually performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the situation, a part of the capsule or the entire capsule is removed during the surgery. Sometimes the implant and capsule are removed together as one entity, called an “en bloc” removal. The procedure can require several hours of surgical time, depending on the status of the implant capsule and whether or not the implant is ruptured. This procedure is performed in our AAAASF certified outpatient surgical center for optimal patient safety. The removal is done via an incision in the inframammary fold or the peri-areolar incision, depending on what incision was used for the original augmentation surgery. Sometimes the incision is longer than the original scar. Patients usually have drains for 2-5 days after the procedure and wear compression. The recovery is relatively easy and the surgery usually does not involve a significant amount of postoperative discomfort in most patients.
